If you disagree with the above, don't buy this book. If you agree with the above, then you
should buy this book. I am not sure how you can be a Christian if you disagree with the
third point (Gal 2:21).

Mr. Rokser makes the 3 above points clearer than any book I've read besides the Scripture.
Highly recommended. I will probably purchase a couple of copies for Christmas gifts.

Chapter on James 2 is worth the purchase price. Also includes a chapter on Matt 24, Olivet Discourse.

The Three Tenses of Salvation

SALVATION IN THREE TIME ZONES provides an excellent clarification of what the Bible means by the terms "saved" and "salvation," showing how these terms are used in Scripture to refer to either physical or spiritual deliverance.

Spiritual deliverance is in three phases or tenses: (1) salvation in the past from sin's penalty at justification; (2) salvation in the present from sin's power in sanctification; and (3) salvation in the future from sin's very presence at glorification. The salvation God provides is full and free!

The book is written in an easy-to-understand style that is not overly technical, with a few helpful diagrams, making it ideal for all believers to understand whether new in the faith or already mature.

A book devoted solely to this subject has been needed for a long time. Theology books often have sections devoted to the doctrines of justification, sanctification, and glorification and their relationship to one another, but this is the only book I'm aware of devoted entirely to the subject of the three tenses of salvation and that shows there is a clear biblical distinction between them and how understanding this distinction provides great assurance of God's grace to the believer in Christ. There are other valuable books that properly distinguish the three tenses of salvation that this reviewer would highly recommend, such as SALVATION by Lewis Sperry Chafer, SO GREAT SALVATION by J. F. Strombeck, SIN, THE SAVIOR, AND SALVATION by Robert Lightner. But Rokser's book is the only book I'm aware of that focuses solely upon the distinction between the three tenses of salvation for the express purpose of showing that a legalistic, works gospel inevitably results when not properly distinguishing the three tenses in passage after passage. This unique focus and purpose of the book is indicated by its subtitle: DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE THREE TENSES OF SALVATION?

SALVATION IN THREE TIME ZONES explains why God's free gift of salvation is one of the most wonderful and vital subjects in the entire Bible and why distinguishing between the three tenses of salvation is essential for every believer's personal assurance, spiritual growth, and correct and consistent interpretation of God's Word. The conclusion of the book is that God's grace guarantees the believer in Christ a past and future salvation, while also providing all that is necessary for salvation from sin's power in the present.

One of the greatest values of this book is its explanation and clarification of many difficult passages. Three chapters at the end of the book cover three separate "test passages" to determine which type and tense of salvation is being referred to (Matthew 24:13; 1 Corinthians 3:15; and James 2:14-26). The explanation of James 2 is so thorough and clear that it alone is worth the price of the book.

This book is highly recommended for all believers and even for unbelievers who may be struggling to understand what the Bible teaches about God's salvation all by His grace from beginning to end.

Horrifying that these things actually happened

This is supposed to be one of the classics of South African literature, so I was eager to get acquainted with it. It's set during the time of the Soweto riots, during apartheid. I got about a third of the way through it, and then had to give up. The violence was too vivid and sickening. The cruelty was too upsetting. No matter how brilliant the writing, I just couldn't bear the graphic details of horror enough to continue. I thought the Nazis were bad. Learning just a tiny bit of what took place during those troubled times in South Africa makes Nelson Mandela's pardoning of his torturers an act of unbelievable grace.

Dry white season.....an important work on apathied

A beautifully written work which reinforces the horror of apartheid, and the indignity that all subjected to this system endured. This book reminds us of the unspeakable tragedy that this system visited on one lovely black South African family, but this tragedy must be multiplied several million times over to grasp its pervasive impact. The determination of the father figure to challenge the huge implacable system, speaks volumes for human potential.
The white south African main character serves to demonstrate the painful harvest that is garnered by anyone who speaks out against injustice of any kind....South Africa continues to provide the world with an excellent laboratory for the examination and review of human relations at its worst and it's best.

Enthralled by a Dry WHite Season

Andre Brink's writing is descriptive and concise which gives it powerful impact. One Afrikaner man who loves his country, is complacent in his job as teacher and yet has to eventually take blinders off when his Black gardener's son is gone missing. We read how Ben's belief in the fairness of the 1970's justice system is slowly eroded. Amidst the student riots of Soweto, He moves out of his comfort zone & take great risks.Like some of us in America, once you know a terrible truth you can no longer do nothing. I like that Brink shows in multiple instances, from the landscape to the people to the politics that everything is not "Black or White" in Apartheid; So-called criminals fall in a grey area and family is not always who you thought or would like them to be.In the final analysis, Ben Du Toit makes the ultimate sacrifice as he follows his conscience.

I really enjoyed it

POSSIBLE SPOILER IN THE REVIEW, ALTHOUGH I DO NOT THINK SO

I have to admit that I am getting awfully tired of so many characters in mm romances being badly abused - not because it is not an important subject, but because it is often being treated superficially and inconsistently IMO.

I did however enjoy this story. I really liked that not pushing somebody who is a survivor of abuse and who was still dealing with a stalker ex into something he was not ready for, meant exactly that for Connor. I liked that the writer did not decide to say "oh to heck with it, lets make them have some gratuitous sex just for the sake of it" and let the relationship proceed at a pace that made sense, to me anyway.

I really liked how Kevin was portrayed, I really liked how clear the writer showed that changes in his personality were the result of horrendous abuse and how hard he fought to reclaim his life back.

I loved that there was no idiotic break up just to make sure the characters will endure mandatory separation, the story provided enough tension as it was IMO.

Now, it is a romance, so we all know that ex had to be dealt with in order for the main characters to be happy, do not worry, I am not going to tell you how it happened, but here is what I do want to say - I was dreading the resolution, because too often in order to deal with the villain one or two main characters has to do something monumentally stupid in order to expose himself to the confrontation with the villain. I did not feel that what happened in this one was stupid, opinions may differ of course, but at least to me it was consistent and made sense.

I also liked how protective Kevin's friends were of him - but as much as I enjoyed them all, this is the part which I unfortunately found the least realistic. Just the fact that so many people cared so much and yes, I wish it would have been more realistic.

The book starts with a frightend Kevin, a thirty old guy who can't bear to stay alone at home. He clings to a linus blanket, he tries to create "rumor" around the apartment to avoid the silence, he makes call to friends. Since the first pages the reader realizes that Kevin is a traumatized man who hasn't yet overcome his nightmare. Three years before Kevin was in a D/s relationship with a Dom who didn't respect the boundaries they agreed, and this sent Kevin to the hospital near dead. Now he is trying to rebuild his life, but his former Master doesn't give up and uses any means to scared him and at the same time begs him to come back. Without the help of his friends, a roommate who is almost a brother, a best girl friend like a substitute mother and a former lover now counselor like second father, Kevin has good chance to success.

Now enter Saint Connor; saint is the only word to describe this man, tender and caring and with too much patience. Have you present that story where everyone knows the secret of one of the main characters, but they spend all the story refusing to reveal it since it's not their right to? Usually they give hints and pushes the poor man in front of them in a abyss of total confusion letting him wondering what atrocity they are hiding? Well forget any of that. Here everyone, from the roommate to the best friend, till the owner of the local bookstore, all are ready to spill the true about Kevin's past and to warn off Connor. The poor man can't even talk to Kevin, that they are telling him that Kevin is fragile, that he probably is not ready for a sexual relationship, and Connor has not yet kiss him! A man with less patience would give up as soon as possible and instead Saint Connor smiles and vows Kevin. When the crazy man who is stalking Kevin, begins to threaten also him, he simple shrug his shoulder and ask Kevin if he is all right. When Kevin becomes a icicle the first time they try something in bed, Connor rises and goes for a cold shower. When all around him seems to collapse in nonsense, the 39 years old Connor takes the phone and calls... his DAD! Connor always does the right thing.

Connor is obviously a good man, but I like that he is not the macho man hero type. In a classical romance, poor Kevin would be rescued by the average knight in shining armour, proud and brave. It's not that Connor is not brave, but he is simple a man; he doesn't set up a show where he "magically" makes disappear all the trouble, he simple gives to Kevin another shoulder to lean when he needs to. He is willing to help, but he will not "resolve" all Kevin's trouble only due to his powerful charm. It's Kevin's task, and right, to learn how to be independent again.

Kevin is a trouble young man. He had obviously difficult childhood, with a mother who pushed him beyond his limits, and who instilled in him a feeling of never being good enough, and a father who probably was too weak to impose; Kevin's father loved him, but he probably was not the authoritative figure Kevin needed, and Kevin searched that figure in other men, like his friend Devon, and finally in his abusive former lover. Now Kevin, to be happy again, needs to realize that he is strong enough even alone; and Connor is good to him since he doesn't try to overprotect him, but he let him space to move, fall and arise again.

The book is quite angst, there are very few light moment, but even if not often, I like the impish streak that the author gave to Kevin. I also like the anti-hero character she created with Connor, handsome and gentle, but not perfect.

I love both characters.

This was published in 2008. I am sorry that it seems to be the only book by this writer. Stories about recovering of an abused victim in MM romance is not rare. However this one is handled very well. Kevin is the abused victim and Connors is the new love interest. There is instant attraction but there is no quick declaration of love and jumping into the sack. I love that the writer takes the time to develop their romance amidst Kevin's fears, pain and insecurities, which is exacerbated by the stalking of his abuser. I like that Kevin could still find so much strength despite his condition. I like that Connors is just a regular guy but willing to take the chance with Kevin and wait for Kevin to be ready to accept him because he loves Kevin enough to do so. This story is also as much Kevin's slow recovery, which is such a painful process even years later. Kevin's fears are so real that they create a suspenseful atmosphere in the story. I find myself holding my breath in parts of the story expecting the abuser, who is evil manifested, to pop up any moment. There of course has to be a resolution and I thought this part is handled really well. No hero hunk to the rescue. The final confrontation between abuser and victim has my heart in my throat. Maybe Kevin's numerous supportive friends are a bit unbelievable but I like everyone of them because their presence really lighten up this story and provide some much needed comfort for Kevin's sake. At nearly 7500 locations, Reclaiming Love is a great story and a greater romance.
