It provided a great foundation to get me started

I purchased the 5 on 5 playbook before it was available on Amazon. I had just signed up to coach 8-9 year olds and did not know where to start. It provided a great foundation to get me started. It is focused on passing and these plays always get someone open. The problem is that young can't always complete the passes. Add a few run specific plays and it would be perfect for the little ones.

I also searched a lot for software to draw up plays and/or modify plays in the guide. There was no clear cut winner. I ended up redrawing them in Vizio. I see a Flag Spin app in the future.

I play on a moderately successful team on a 5 on 5 flag football league and this guide provided the final push for my team to go the extra yard. This book provides a guideline with which you can put your team in order and teach them how to run plays and play defense. The book contains a code to copy the playbook into an iPad app, but it doesn't state clearly that you have to have the pro version for it to work.

I'd recommend this book to anyone starting their team and in need of a system to start building upon.

About the Author
A.G. Riddle spent ten years starting internet companies before retiring to pursue his true passion: writing fiction.

Riddle grew up in a small town in North Carolina (Boiling Springs) and graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill. During his sophomore year of college, he started his first company with a childhood friend. Wonderful Sequel!

I loved the story from the first book, but I struggled with the writing style and character development. This sequel expands the original story, ties up some loose ends, and the best surprise for me was how much better the character development was. The book can get fairly technical sometimes, but I like that kind of science fiction. Some of the tangents can get annoying, and the extent of the fantastical twists gets fairly complex. Ultimately, I was able to follow along enough to really dig the technical stuff and care about the characters. The story touches on so many facets of the human experience: science, religion, history, evolution, biology, physics, good vs. evil. I highly recommend reading the first book, and jumping right into this one.

The series contnues to improve.

The Atlantis series is so intriguing because its central idea, managed evolution of the human race over a hundred thousand years continuing into the present, convincingly seems to have more than a kernel of truth to it. While the writing of the present-day plot elements proceeds at a near chaotic pace, The Atlantis Plague is an improvement over the first book in the series. There had been a break in style between the action portion and the diary-like reminiscences of the discoverer of the atlantean ship, giving the impression of two different writers. In this book, the slower paced sections detailing the coincidence of plagues and evolutionary leaps by mankind are the most interesting parts, and the dizzyingly fast paced action parts seem to simply support that central idea. In other words, the unfolding revelation of mankind's real evolutionary past and future is so original and convincingly presented that the reader is compelled forward through the entire series.

Great Sci-Fi with a creative and good storyline. It will make a good movie!

I picked up,all three of A.G. Riddle's Origin series books and have read two and am working on the third. The first in the series, The Atlantis Plague, was a very unique story with seemingly a good deal of research before it was written. It is nice to see a return of traditional Sci-Fi novels and stories (and a deviation away from Sci-Fi Fantasy).

This novel was well,crafted taking you through unpredicted twists and turns, as the riddle (no pun intended) is disclosed chapter by chapter. I do not like to recite the highlights in book plots feeling it ruins a book when someone has pre-disclosed the story line. So I will not. I would highly recommend the book though.

It is also disclosed that a movie will be made based on the book and I think if captured right, it will be a good one.

The most EFFECTIVE self-help book I've read in years

I had just finshed Martin Seligman's Learned Optimism and was finally having some success dealing with my depression and anxiety when my wife gave me a copy of Embracing Your Inner Critic. She'd picked the book up a year or two earlier and lost track of it in the "to read" piles. This book really grabbed me. I've never really been comfortable with the various "inner child" labels I come across in therapy, but the term "inner critic" really resonated with me. I was all teed up and ready for this book by the optimism I was discovering within myself and starting to develop thanks to Seligman's book.
I think I wore out a couple of highlighters going through Embracing Your Inner Critic. My first thoughts were "How do these people know ME so well?" but I came to realize that I am not alone. That there are lots of us blaming ourselves in order to "protect" ourselves from outside criticism. I'm learning that beating my imagined critics to the punch by criticising myself sooner and harder than anyone else would is not really helping myself but rather pushing me deeper into the muck of depression.
I realized my inner critic was a pretty good ventroliquist. I had been blaming everyone else for saying all the negative stuff I was actually saying about myself. The book helped me to start moving away from adversarial relationships with my critics, both real and imagined. Now I'm learning to listen to my inner critic as kind of distant early warning system, a helpful "heads up" rather than a broadside of self-loathing. For the first time I'm seeing a world full of potential allies rather than adversaries. The Voice Dialogue technique is a lot like cognitve therapy and like cognitive therapy it requires regular practice for full benefit. But the rewards of the techniques I'm learning from these two books have provided me with strong motivation to stick with it.

A book that will open your eyes

If you are suffering from low self esteem, if your days are filled with destructive and incessant attacks from your Inner Critic, read this. It's an easy read that unfolds logically and intuitively - half way through you'll begin to anticipate where the authors are going because what they are saying makes so much sense. This book will open your eyes to the various "voices" we harbor and will help you understand the productive role the Critic was meant to play. It will show you how to get your Critic back on your side, helping you, instead of attacking you and making you feel like your life is a failure.

Hal and Sidra Stone are pioneers in this field of inner voice dialogue. Think evolution from Freud's id, ego, super ego...through Transactional Analysis (Parent, Child, Adult) through Bradshaw's Inner child work...to inner voice dialogue. They have video's books and workshops and have trained numerous professionals in this technique. The result is a genuinely effective technique that gives us a viable framework to understand why we often have opposing thoughts and feelings and the tools to move us in a direction of acting from a more "adult" place. My partner and I used these techniques from their book "Embracing Ourselves" to great effect in the mid 90's as she worked through abuse survivor issues. Not only did it provide a method of healing for her, I was able to use it effectively in my own journey and it was an exceptional tool for us as a couple.

Now we are using and recommending this book (Inner Critic) to friends as we see in ourselves and in others, the overriding power the inner critic has on our lives. The book explains where the critic and other sub-personalities come from, the concept of disowned selves and how instead of trying to "choke" our critic into silence, we can actually take a more lasting approach to understanding it and the related subpersonalities, hold the primary subs and the disowned selves together and work toward balance and the achievement of a strong aware ego. Don't be scared off by the lingo here, it is very understandable and usable information.

A solid introduction to email marketing, despite a misleading title

Subhead: Not the book I thought it would be, but it still has merit for the right audience.

As someone who has been involved in various aspects of email marketing for both corporate and small-business clients for over a decade, there's nothing here that I don't already have experience with (and some of my own strong opinions about from ongoing and evolving work). Like others, the title had me thinking that this would be a book with some really innovative and rule-breaking ideas about e-mail marketing in 2013. Alas, this is not the case.

It would, however, serve as a good primer for those who know next to nothing about email marketing and need to get a quick overview and jumpstart.

This isn't the definitive book/guide on email marketing, but it does touch heavily on something that I believe is the cornerstone of successful marketing: The List. Some general intro books on the subject focus more heavily on design and content. But as anyone who has ever been charged with using email effectively as part of a marketing campaign knows, you live or die first and foremost by The List (AKA, your target audience). You can have fabulous, relevant content and a well-designed and inviting format and still fail miserably if your emails are not going to folks who have been "qualified" and tested.

It was good to see that the authors gave a context for some of their opinions and also gave the pros/cons (advantages/disadvantages) of elements such as single- and double opt-ins. More importantly, in the discussion of Best Practices, although they seem to be saying many no longer apply, what they're really saying is that the practices are relative to your business, industry and audience.

On the plus side, it presents the material in a way that gets you to think and question your decisions on how you want to create and grow your list. And it explores key elements and how they affect your ability to successfully use email as a 21st-century marketing.

The book is well-organized and easy to read and includes Endnotes that are useful for those who want to follow up on various topics.

To their credit, the authors' focus is primarily on how to appeal to the subscriber and how various choices may impact them. Given how some companies seem to be almost exclusively focused on telling their "stories" or selling, this is an important perspective.

Why Email Marketing Needs a Rebel's Guide

I'm not big on full-throated endorsements but if your business has anything to do with email marketing (if it doesn't that's another issue altogether) there's something in The Rebel's Guide to Email Marketing for you. Whether you're a marketing VP or coordinator, a copywriter or designer, you'll find nuggets of intel that will leave your copy of the book broken-spined and dog-eared.

I also have to give Waldow and Falls props for how they close the book as well. First, they poll four venerable email experts on the future of the channel. Next, taking Nike's advice to "Just Do It" a step further, Rebel's Guide leaves you with an actionable four-step list (with due dates!) for you to kickstart your email program.

Like a true manual, The Rebel's Guide will serve as a continuing resource not simply by telling you what you should and shouldn't do with your email marketing campaigns. Rather it provides the frameworks you can make your own and reminds you that only by testing with your audience will you know for certain. Take to heart the book's golden rule -- best practices are practices tht work best for your subscribers. This is valuable advice for email marketing and beyond.

A perfect tutorial for the email marketint novice

I was lucky enough to receive a complimentary copy of The Rebel's Guide from the publisher. And I personally know both DJ and Jason ... so for transparency, let's get that out of the way.

After reading the book, I have to agree with some of the other reviews here. There is ample use of examples throughout the book and a constant reinforcing of key themes and ideas that really make this a tutorial vs the common 30,000 foot overview type business book.

Written in a friendly, approachable and fun style, Jason and DJ do a great job of giving you the basic template to begin or enhance you're own email marketing program. And then just for fun, they blow up some of their own ideas to show you that there really is not ONE way to do anything. But rather than just hang their hat on the "be different angle" DJ and Jason give you a framework for not just breaking the rules but strategically and purposefully designing rule breaking tests to learn and enhance your email marketing.

Give it a read folks... some really good learning and examples included in the book.
